Bojour my little proletariats.
Well, looks like a couple of the new members of Camp Mammy have set up their tents, which is always nice to see. Been a busy day fer me. Finally got around to doing a little truck work, but ended up just working on the NEP remix of secondsminutes. Actually have a rough mix version done and it's pretty durn cool if I say so myself. Not sure when a final-ish version will be ready, probably no later than next weekend, but we'll see. Watch for it on the NEP site (once everything is worked out and running...)
Fans of the older stuff will notice a big change from the ol' Who Loves Ya? days, but it's sounding pretty neat. Definitely more pop influences than you're probably used to hearing (cool pop, not like Hilary Duff/Mariah Carey/Avril "I'm so punk, eh" Lavigne)
On another note, today is the birthday of Kiera Knightley who is now a whopping 19 years old. Hot chicks who make me feel old, that's just perfect. Alienation and guilt all in one place. I might as well be in Catholic school. Anyway, keep at it... -Joe
I just set up an aquarium a few weeks ago. You'll need to know that.
My daughter, Micayla, is seven - almost eight. She inherited my family's enhanced emotional sensitivity along with a level of comprehension I'm proud of. She is a bit more sophisticated than I was at that age. Her mother and I have tried not to shield her from too much. Hopefully, by allowing her to see the world as it is, and explaining things to her to help her understand life from an early age, it will allow her to avoid that crippling naivete that plagued me because of my parent's conservative, harshly religious parenting skills. With luck, she will develop a good sense of humor about life without being as jaded as I am.
Mickey watched her mother give birth.
So...
Last Monday, on national Goof-Off Day(yes, it really exists), She said she wanted to watch the first Austin Powers movie with me. Do you remember the part right after he goes through the "un-freezing" process, and a military man is going through the inventory of Austin's possessions?
Sergeant - One blue crushed velvet suit. Austin - Hey, alright! Sergeant - One frilly lace crevat Austin - There it is! Sergeant - One silver medallion - with "male" symbol Sergeant - One pair of Italian boots Austin - Bongiourno, boys Sergeant - One vinyl record - Burt Bacharach Plays His Hits Austin - Hey, Burt! Sergeant - One... Swedish-made... penis enlarger... pump
I could tell Mickey was doing her best to not look in my direction during that scene. I'm sure it took her a bit to really get it, but...
So we get to near the end, when they're doing the whole "hide the bits and pieces" bit, and Mickey giggles and says, "he's trying to hide his penis with that thing."
After the movie, I went to the computer room to start recording Fear-Factor, and she follows a few minutes later, after watching the out-takes.
In the hallway is an aquarium vacuum cleaner.
If you have an aquarium, you know the punch-line.
She picks it up, smiles and says, "Daddy, this looks like the thing Austin had in the movie. You know, the penis pump?"
"Why do you have one?"
I chuckled quietly and told her it was for cleaning the rocks at the bottom of a fish tank.
Mickey smirked at me and said, "Yeh."

Yup, it's time for the first official apology here at the Love Blog (Love Blog soon will be making another run/The Love Blog promises something for everyone...) Yesterday was the birthday of one of the few people that falls under the classification of being "The Man" It's list comprised of my personal heroes--even if they're largely unnoticed by the world at large. This collection includes such luminaries as Johnny Cash, Trent Reznor, Mark McGwire, Vincent D'Onofrio, Joss Whedon, et al. So, here is a belated happy b-day wish to the one, the only R. Lee Ermey. You might remember him from "Full Metal Jacket" or the ridiculous number of voice jobs he's done (including "Invader Zim" awwwww yeaaah...) So, here's the day late, dollar short Love Blog salute to R. Lee Ermey: kickin' ass and takin' names since you were still crapping yourself watching the Teletubbies.

I've quickly realized that, in fact, while my charm and wit are seemingly infinite, my time and imagination tend to peter out on me. As such (and cuz I'm such a sharing guy) you'll see a few new faces here on the lil' blog o' love. I'll let them introduce themselves in their own time, but their e-mail addresses have joined mine (left side, cleverly hidden under the "Contact" heading...) Say hi. Say you. Say me. Say it for always, that's the way it should be... -Joe

'Allo again, my little earwigs.
So, still nothing too cool, but I thought I'd drop a line to ya'll anyway. Hopefully a few new faces will be popping up on the ol' blog soon enough. Anyone who's actually been poking around here (God help you...) in the past couple weeks has seen the rapid and radical evolution the blog has already taken on. I'm all for messing with stuff so things will likely change rapidly around here.
Anyway, opening day is just over a week away and life can begin anew. Tis a happy happy time when the games start again (*wipes a nostalgaic tear away from the corner of my eye*) That and the dogs are now tracking in every but of mud they can find all over the house, and usually, all over my bed. Gotta love this time of year.
In recognition of the changing season I offer a funky link for your general consumption--but not too much, I don't want you spoiling your dinner...

Well kids, another day another dollar for ol' Joe. Got back from work and just spent an inordinate amount of time messing with html code. It's a horrible flashback to when I actually thought I could design pages all by my lonesome.
As far as news, nothing too much. Work is continuing on the remix as I have time. Plan to work on the truck (57 GMC, baby...) some. Maybe a little writing, although I'm trying not to get too distracted from music at the moment. Here's a brief tune list of things I've got playing to tide you over until something actually cool comes about:
Ani DiFranco- This Bouquet The Cure- A Letter to Elise Lost Dogs- Dunce Cap They Might Be Giants- Mammal Mike Knott- Jan the Weatherman Gary Jules- Mad World Dexy's Midnight Runners- Come On Eileen Fargo Sndtrk- Main Theme The Prayer Chain- Sun Stoned Simple Minds- Don't You Forget About Me Smashing Pumpkins- Soma Radiohead- No Surprises

| Sick day...:: Joe | | 10:45 PM |
| | | | | |
If I really wanted to see that food again, I wouldn't have swallowed it in the first place. Anyway... Today's bout with illness is actually a little less severe than has been the case lately (ie, I can stand...) so I've had the chance to a little (accent on little) tweaking with a project that I've been putting off for a while.
On a sudden urge a few months ago I agreed to remix a track for a guy I hadn't heard of before. The group Automate was looking for people to redo a track called secondsminutes. I listened to it and thought it was groovy, so, with a sense of hubris bubbling around in my gut (much like a more literal thing bubbling around today... ugh...) I said I'd take a crack at it. Jump ahead to this weekend when I actually started (sorry, dude...) playing with it. It's coming along and it's fun to toy around with stuff I haven't done before (more fun when... Well, you get the concept of me not being well...). Check out his site and send him some love
Speaking of being sick, the WB has cancelled Angel. Not exactly new news, I realize, but it still sucks. Especially since winners like 7th Heaven and the umpteen kajillion reruns of Elimidate they run here will no doubt be returning for years and years to come. Everything is wrong. Everything is sick. We're all gonna die...
Which is why you should check out the opening chapter to All Things Right and Beautiful on the fiction page, cuz just cuz the world sucks, doesn't mean you shouldn't pretend like it's all okay... -Joe

| Publishing's Triumph of the Will:: Joe | | 5:40 AM |
| | | | | |
Okay, I'm not an exceptionally bitter dude. I've had my issues in the past with various people and situations, but I've learned to laugh at them and myself. Falling into the "laughing at" category is the very first entry in the "We're not interested in your sorry little novel" contest that probably will be running a while until I find someone willing to stoop... errrr, take a chance on "All Things..." This wouldn't be so bad, but, as a veteran of rejection letters I've come to expect a certain level of professionalism and even style when it comes to being shot down. Either your standard "We're not interested, but we think you're probably very nice as a person" kind of form letter or the more elaborate "We type your name into a merge option and cough up your very own personalized letter of disinterest." In either case, you expect some letterhead and something written and appropriately spaced text to make it look like someone took a couple minutes to at least design their mass "piss off" memo. What I got in this case was something that looked like it had been copied at the local Kwiki-Mart between hitting on the cashier and refilling their Icee that had been thrown together by someone's kid. In other words, just kinda dumpy. So, I've chosen to share this little bit of history and joy with you. It can only go up from here, right? -Joe
