Delays delays delays:: Joe 6:12 PM

So, you know how I promised that all the world's ills would be fixed by this weekend? Yeah, that's probably not going to happen. Sorry guys, I'm sure you were all looking forward to a pain-free rest of your lives, but you'll have to wait a bit longer. I've gotten bogged down in some other work (more on that in a sec...) and our beloved Platypus Man is in Chi-Town for the weekend, so between the two of us, next to nothing will get done. I'd like to apologize to the fans, the Joe Mammy organization and my teammates for my behaviour...

On a happier note, while I have yet to finish a solid "finished" version of the secondsminutes remix, I have already (24 hours, baby... yeyeah!) finished a more or less completed version of Automate's gorgeous wrap your arms around me. If you poke around a bit (like on the right side of this screen, for instance...) you just may find a link to it.

Hellboy is out this weekend, too. Yea! The Prince and Me and Home on the Range are out this weekend, too. Not so yea. Ah well, tis the life I've earned, for better or worse. Keep kickin' it my lil' homies...

Right about now--the funk soul brotha...:: Joe 4:23 AM

'Sup chitlins?

Well, if you've been around a bit in the last day or so you've noticed no doubt your share freaky stuff on the Website of the Gods (c). Hopefully we've managed to undo whatever damage I inadvertently caused. In either case, I'm back, Blog's back, Site's up, Cyril's back (kinda) and everything is fluffy bunnies and rainbows again.

Anyway, I've got a little extra time this weekend, so hopefully I'll be able to resolve the freaks tech crap that's been keeping my expensive toys from working properly and I'll be able to post something that you kids'll dig. (I know, promises promises...) But I promise something will be up and done here--even if it is small and lame.

Other than that, April 5 is the Cards opener and of course I have to work *sigh* I don't get too worked up about many things, but I likes da baseball and I know it's 162 games long, but I kinda wanted to see the first one. Oh well, barring a sick day (which there have already been too many of) it ain't a-gonna happen.

Back at ya later with some actual stuff...

donny osmond fills my life:: supadupagirl 6:21 PM

it's true. my waking hours are spent (much to my chagrin and much to the delight of my eight-year-old daughter) listening to and/or watching the donny osmond version of "joseph and the amazing technicolor dreamcoat."
i'm not kidding. really. i'm not.
and, to mr. osmond's credit, he's got a decent showtunes-type voice. but he's still sorta creepy in that "i was a child star" kind of way.
and i think the man actually shaved his chest for the role.
other than that, just your average day here in the twin cities. listened to p-funk-daddy's remix the other night (paul, just pick yourself up off the floor) and i have to say, i enjoyed it more than the original. nice work, p-daddy.
(and no, i've not finished the novel.)
on notes of my own creativity....hmm. none, sadly. started playing bass guitar with an old friend of mine (who is, by far, much more talented than i) and am working with her on lyrics for her piano/guitar stuff, so maybe someday, (this goes esp. to you, pfunk) i'll have stuff you can not get around to listening to. whee!

Ahhhh, fishing...:: Joe 10:55 PM

My day just got a little rosier. First got some nifty tweaks done to the ol' Blog (with the oft-promised fixes and features hopefully on tap to be done by this weekend...) watched a little Fishing With John, did a little lifting, and got me some love. That's right, the word is officially in:

hello, no you didnt mangle secondsminutes in the least... i thoroughly enjoyed your mix and would love to hear what you could do with wrap your arms.. i'll get the source material to you asap...

-andrew(automate)

So look like ol' Joe is gonna get to play around with "wrap your arms around me" (see previous blog entry for ranting and raving about how great a track it is...) and hopefully not kill it. Hopefully I'm also on the way to getting the tech problems taken care of so I'll actually have a working studio again. And did I mention I'm also sporting the elusive 4-day weekend? Awww yeah.

So, to quote Fishing With John "Life is so beautiful. Every breath. Every day of our lives. Ahhhhh, fishing..."
-Joe

No one in the world ever gets what they want and that is beautiful...:: Joe 4:28 PM

Yup, time for a TMBG title line. Good times.

Well, another day, another eternal struggle against the countless forces that would align to pee on us. I hope you brought your umbrella. In all honesty, I've noticed a bit of "downer" thread going in the last couple of posts, so I've decided to put an end to that. At least for now.

So, instead of cursing the technological darkness, I've decided to move on and work on something else until everything is up and running. Not to give too much away, but it's about an Amish man on an extended bus trip. It's not a "comic" piece, although there should be some of that trademark absurdity humor that seems to seep into just about everything I do. Trying to shift gears into doing a longer piece again (not the 2-4 page jobbers I had been doing) but a more standard 10-15 page thing. We'll see if it actually works out that way, but here's hoping.

On website stuff, don't know what exactly is going on or not working anymore. Tweaking is continual and ongoing much like interest accruing. Whee! I'm hoping to get some of the blog issues worked out soon (archives, comments, etc...) so hopefully everything will be up and running soon. Also, on a related note, it looks like we're shredding through bandwidth which is cool (hi everybody!) but also a little unsettling (goodbye money!). In either case, I'm trying to get the Joe Mammy experience more interactive so you all can say what a dork I am, or, you know, whatever.

Anyway, keep the comments coming and remember:
Everyone dies frustrated and sad and that is beautiful...

Gah!:: Joe 1:49 AM

It's been one of those days. Nothing is working right--hardware, software, software, software, and life in general seems to be running a little rough. It's a bunch of crap, I say!

To recap: recently upgraded to SONAR 3 and am trying to get the various features to work with little to no success. My MIDI interface still isn't being seen by my OS and I can't even check out the homepage because of some freaky Flash thing.

I've basically spent the last four hours or so trying to tweak/fix/negotiate with more or less every piece of equipment in the little workshop here. I don't mind doing it usually, but usually I'm not met with error upon error upon mysterious software issue. And usually I make some progress. Not tonight.

Oh, and saw Scooby Doo 2 tonight as well. The full review will be on the review section soon, but to sum up: Sarah Michelle Gellar quit Buffy to do stuff like this? It's insane, man. Freaking insane.

So, yeah, I still rule, but it doesn't always rule to be me (remember that, kids...) Hopefully when the site stuff gets settled down a bit I'll hook you all up with a new bit o' fiction and maybe some tuneage. In the meantime you'll just have to settle for this.
And remember: you can't keep a good man down: that's what the concrete is for...

A fine howdya do...:: Joe 8:06 AM

First off, continued props to D-Funk: the one and only (and affectionally self-monickered) Platypus Man who continues to rock harder on this site then most folk do in their entire lives. The boy'll surprise me. Anyway, Cecil (or Cyril--I haven't decided yet) our freaky old man mascot guy may be leaving our beloved corner of Mammy-dom for parts unknown. If you have a suggestion for an alternate mascot, I'm all ears. Drop me a line.

Second, looking at the News corner of the lil' site, I see that secondsminutes has been uploaded along with the very rough version of my remix. I wasn't expecting it to be up just yet, but get a quick listen if you're so inclined. I'll let ya'll know when the new version (ie, finished) is up and good to go. In the meantime kick back and mellow.

Third, the NEP site is starting to take form. It may be bouncing around a bit until we get actual page/file names assigned, so I'll list 'em when I'm sure they've found a permanent home. Samples should be forthcoming.

Whew. Busy weekend doing the work thing, but I've got some time, so hopefully more music stuff will be in the works (beyond finishing the remix...) Not sure when lilies of the field will actually be done, but I've got a good idea where I'm going with a lot of the rest of the project thus far, so hopefully a couple more months. I've also been mulling around another writing project which I've tentatively started on. We'll see. The musical process for me is about a polar opposite from writing and switching gears just kinda makes my head hurt.

Anyway, gonna be a busy day and I haven't slept yet--a situation I intend to rectify in about two minutes. As always, give a shout out to say hi or whatever and I'll catch up wit ya lataz...

Ahh, to be twisted and torn like love letter in the wind...:: Joe 7:50 AM

So, here I am, dealing with some stuff:
#1) I'm checking out some other blogs and I realized something--Blog people tend to be megalomaniacal, hipper than thou, or losers who think their idiosyncratic way of looking at the world is charming.

Sad to say, depending on the day I probably would categorize myself in any of the above. Yikes. So, you know, that sucks. Cuz at the end of the day, I'm just some dude who spouts off half-assed bits of pseudo wisdom and soundbyte sarcasm--all at discount prices. Granted, greater careers have been launched with less, but it's still a little unsettling to be able to reduce yourself to a nice, concise and totally derisive label.

#2) I finished a rough draft of the Automate track "secondsminutes" I let Andrew know it was up and good to go and have yet to receive any love. Tis a sad thing, cuz I'm actually pretty happy with it. Granted, it's rough and my very first remix-type project, but it's still pretty sweet. So I was kinda moping around and looking at the Automate website just to, I dunno, pout, I guess. Kicker is I checked out a little track on there called "wrap your arms around me" which pretty much rules.

So, I'm again torn: to be irritated over my little ditty or be totally impressed with this track. It's hard to be moody when there's a track kicking your ass, you know? So, I'm just kinda grooving now and hoping my nods are forthcoming.

Oh, and work sucks. Not that has anything to do with anything, just felt the need to point out that putting time in the metaphorical mines isn't a joyride.

Welp, the pups are getting restless and I'm getting tired. Ramble on later...
